The B!g Sleepout

October 2010

Auckland leaders sleep rough to help tackle homelessness

Auckland business and community leaders will ‘sleep rough’ for a night next month to raise awareness of the growing problem of homelessness and raise much needed funds to help LIFEWISE get the homeless off the streets and into their own homes.

LIFEWISE, the social services agency that has helped more than 110 homeless people find homes in the past two years, is behind the Big Sleepout on 14 October. Leading Aucklanders will be sponsored to experience what many homeless people face every night.

Participants are sponsored via www.bigsleepout.org.nz with the goal of raising at least $50,000 for a new venture, the LIFEWISE Hub – an innovative one-stop-shop providing social services and a community café for homeless and marginalised people in the heart of Auckland.

We are sending our very own General Manger, Brian Howe along to experience what it's like to sleep rough, to help raise awareness and also raise funds for this great cause.

*Added 22/10** Congratulation's and well done to Brian for raising $1100 for The Big Sleepout! What a great achievement to such a great cause. So far the total amount raised is $95,000 - you can read the press release here.
